Gone Fishin'

Fishing? In January? Sign me up. Would love to be out on a lake stalking some largemouth bass or northern pike, maybe jigging for some walleye. My 16yo and I spent some time in Bass Pro Shop the other day and it definitely got the fishing bug going. Fortunately, it's been a fairly mild winter and we've been able to spend some time outdoors lately, so that helps.

Most people today are all like, "New Year, New Me" but the reality is that "new you" will only last a couple weeks at most. Life changes made solely based on a calendar date are the least likely to take effect.

Why do most people fail at making changes in the new year?

New Year - New You?

Another year has come and gone. We survived the Black Friday onslaught of ads screaming at us that we absolutely needed more, more, and more. We survived the ensuing weeks of ads and emails reminding us of the ever-waning number of shopping days until Christmas. I'm currently in the process of surviving the hordes of emails letting me know that if I didn't get what I really wanted, they have the solution.

Consequently, in a day or so (if it hasn't already started) we'll be barraged with emails and ads for fitness, healthy eating, gym memberships. "New Year, New You!" they'll promise us.

But as a nation we're suffering from more than just a physical health and fitness problem - we're plagued by spiritual unhealthiness.

Resolved: No More Resolutions!

Dear God, my prayer for 2015 is a FAT bank account and a THIN body. Please don't mix it up like you did this year.
Ah, New Year's Day. A new year, a fresh start. A day of college football, the Winter Classic...oh, and updating that list of pesky resolutions from last year 2013 2012 2011, well, you know the routine.
So many folks are resolving today that their lives are going to be different, and happy, and successful. All because of a date on the calendar.
