Deer Stand Devotionals: Dying to Grow

The colors of fall are exploding around us. The rustle of leaves whipping in the wind fills the air. The temperatures have dropped like a rock. These things can only mean fall has officially arrived here in the midwest. In fact, as I sit here and write this, that white stuff has started to mix with the light rain that is falling.

Once thing that fall brings here in the forest is tons of acorns underfoot. The few that are lucky enough to escape the clutches of the hordes of squirrels will make their way into the ground and eventually sprout a seedling that will one day become a mighty oak.

But this doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, the first step in the process is that the acorn has to die. Jesus referred to this in John 12:24 -

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit."

Are you going through what seems to be a bleak winter season of life? Maybe there’s something you’re hanging onto that needs to “die” in order for you to get to a point where you can be fruitful.

Even when winter seems bleak and long, the hope of spring is always around the corner. If you’re going through a trial or tough season, know that spring is coming.
